TYF454- From Punk to Monk: Interview with Raghunath Ray Cappo Part 1

Some stories are so powerful, they change the way we see the world. This is one of them.

In this episode of Thrive Yoga Fit Transformational Coaching, I have the absolute honor of sitting down with Raghunath Ray Cappo—a man who has lived at the edges of intensity, from the raw energy of punk rock to the deep devotion of Bhakti Yoga.

Once the frontman of Youth of Today and Shelter, Raghunath lived and breathed the chaos of the punk scene before walking away from it all to immerse himself in a world of devotion, discipline, and spiritual awakening. He spent six and a half years as a monk in an ashram, and now, years later, he teaches others how to integrate ancient wisdom into everyday life.

✨ In this conversation, we dive into:

💥 How punk rock and Bhakti Yoga are more connected than you’d think
🎶 The electrifying energy of Kirtan—like a mosh pit, but infused with love
🌍 His sacred journey through India—Rishikesh, Mayapur, Jaipur—where devotion pulses through the streets
🥋 The surprising connection between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and spirituality
💡 The magic of living with both structure and spontaneity

Hearing Raghunath speak is like sitting around a fire, listening to a traveler who has walked the long road and returned with wisdom. His story is living proof that transformation is not just possible—it’s inevitable when we surrender to something greater.

This is just Part 1 of our conversation, and trust me, you won’t want to miss what’s coming next.

TYF453- Living Bhakti Yoga Real Life Application

In this episode of Thrive Yoga Fit, I, Erin, share my insights on bhakti yoga and its application in our daily lives. As I prepare for Yoga Church at my studio, I express my gratitude to listeners from around the world and my local community for their support and curiosity about my journey.

I delve into the principles of bhakti yoga, emphasizing the importance of devotion and connection with the divine. I discuss the significance of having ethical guidelines, or “bumper rails,” to help us navigate our spiritual paths and maintain awareness of our actions and thoughts. Key pillars of bhakti yoga include non-criticism, tolerance, non-offense, and the importance of quick apologies. I share personal anecdotes to illustrate how these principles have shaped my interactions and self-awareness.

Additionally, I touch on the concept of archana, or forming a relationship with the divine through rituals, and how my involvement in a yogi punk rock band has become a creative outlet for expressing spirituality. I also explore the idea of forming friendships with the divine and others, highlighting the importance of kindness, gratitude, and community.

Throughout the episode, I encourage listeners to engage in self-study (swadhyaya) and maintain a spiritual discipline (sadhana) to enhance their lives. I conclude by inviting those interested in joining my upcoming retreats in India or Japan to reach out and reminding everyone to leave a review for the podcast.

Thank you for tuning in, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Namaste.

TYF452- Bhakti Yoga Life Principles

In this episode of Thrive Yoga Fit Transformational Coaching, I, Erin, welcome listeners back on a rainy Monday in Braintucky, Florida. I share my recent experiences, including a productive weekend spent on administrative tasks and teaching a yoga teacher training course with 11 enthusiastic participants. This marks my 14th training, and I reflect on the dedication and love I pour into guiding my students.

Continuing my series on Bhakti Yoga, I delve into its core principles and practices. For those who missed the previous episode, I encourage listeners to catch up, as I discuss the foundational pillars of Bhakti Yoga, which emphasize devotion to the divine through non-criticism, tolerance, gratitude, and seeing the good in others.

I introduce the concept of Archana, which involves forming a relationship with the divine through rituals like puja. I explain the significance of Ganesha in these rituals and how they help focus the mind and connect with something greater than ourselves. I also share my personal connection with the deity Saraswati, highlighting how this relationship enriches my life and practice.

Next, I explore the idea of Sakya, or forming a friendship with the divine. I discuss how this concept can make spirituality feel more accessible and relatable, likening it to the joy of meeting a friend. I emphasize the importance of mantra and chanting in Bhakti Yoga, describing how these practices can open the heart and facilitate a deeper connection to the divine.

I touch on the practice of Swadhyaya, or self-study, encouraging listeners to pay attention to their thoughts and behaviors. I share insights from my own life, including a new relationship that has highlighted the beauty of attention to detail and self-awareness.

Sadhana, or disciplined practice, is another key aspect I discuss. I stress the importance of having a regular practice for emotional and mental hygiene, comparing it to physical hygiene and the necessity of maintaining clarity in our lives.

Finally, I conclude with the significance of Sangha, or spiritual community. I reflect on my journey in building a connected community at Thrive, emphasizing how vital it is to have supportive relationships on the spiritual path.

I hope this episode provides valuable insights into Bhakti Yoga and inspires listeners to deepen their practice and connection with the divine. I invite feedback and encourage listeners to reach out, share their experiences, and leave reviews to help others discover the podcast.

She candidly shares her struggles with ego, resistance, and the realization that true surrender requires continuous effort and self-awareness.

TYF447- 12 Step Adaptation for Grief (step 1)- Powerlessness and Unmanageability.

This episode kicks off a three-part series inspired by an adapted 12-step program on grief and heartache, which has been transformative for me. The first step I’ll discuss is admitting powerlessness over heartbreak—a humbling realization for someone who’s used to being self-sufficient. Acknowledging my vulnerability has allowed me to embrace my needs, ask for help, and grow through this pain.

I’ll also share three questions that have shifted my perspective:

  1. What did I do right in the relationship?
  2. What am I doing well in life now?
  3. What can I do for myself in this moment?

These reflections have been powerful tools for self-compassion and healing. Grief is tough, but it’s also an opportunity to reconnect with yourself.

I’m excited to announce I have five spots left for my transformative trip to Japan! This journey blends cultural exploration with personal growth.

This 12 day adventure and spiritual trip starts this year November 5th and I’d love for you to join me.

TYF446- The 3 questions pro tips and guidelines

Welcome back to Thrive Yoga Fit Transformational Coaching! I’m Erin, and in this episode, I continue the conversation from my last podcast, diving deeper into the transformative power of questions, especially after experiencing a breakup or a sudden shift in life circumstances.

I share my personal journey of navigating a traumatic breakup that left me feeling lost and overwhelmed. It’s important to acknowledge that breakups can be complex and filled with mixed emotions, and I emphasize that it’s normal to feel a range of feelings, including guilt and shame. However, I’ve discovered that asking the right questions can help shift our mindset and pull us out of that dark hole.

In this episode, I introduce three powerful questions designed to help you reflect positively on your experiences:

  1. What did I do good or right in this relationship or situation?
This question encourages you to focus on the positive aspects of your actions rather than dwelling on what went wrong. I explain how shifting your focus can change your physical and emotional state, helping you feel more expansive and less contracted.

  2. What am I doing good or right in my life in general?
This question serves as a stepping stone to recognize the good in your life beyond the recent challenges. I stress the importance of not overcomplicating this process and instead quickly identifying positive aspects of your life.

  3. What can I do right or good for myself in this moment?
Here, I encourage listeners to take actionable steps to nurture themselves, whether it’s through self-care, reaching out to friends, or engaging in activities that bring joy.

Throughout the episode, I discuss the significance of maintaining a higher frequency and a loving mindset. I share personal anecdotes about the importance of self-love and the impact of supportive friendships during tough times. I also touch on the idea of using mantras to reinforce positive thoughts and combat negative self-talk.

I conclude by inviting listeners to reach out for support, whether they need clarity after a breakup or simply a kind word. I encourage everyone to embrace their worth and recognize that it’s okay to make mistakes. Life is a journey, and with the right mindset and tools, we can navigate through the challenges and emerge stronger.
